A year of domestic abuse in Northern Ireland

This interactive map was created by The Detail using data requested from the PSNI. The figures relate to the 27,190 domestic abuse incidents reported during 2012/13 and the markers represent each PSNI area. We have given a breakdown of all of the crime categories - they include murder, sexual assault, kidnapping and criminal damage. Domestic abuse is any incident of threatening behaviour, violence or abuse inflicted on one person by another where they are or have been intimate partners or family members. Of the total crimes reported in 2012/13, over 450 of the victims were children aged nine or younger. 73% were female. The gender figure is based on the 10,270 crimes where gender of the victim was known.
